There is no scientific evidence as to how Reiki works; however, there are many studies that report the benefits recipients receive from their treatments, some include:
increased energy levels
reduced food cravings
improved quality of sleep
overall joy and peace
Reiki is recognized by many in the medical profession as a welcomed addition to the healing process, and is practiced in various hospital settings in preparation for surgery, and post-op care.
Studies have also shown postive results when Reiki is administered to substance abuse clients, cancer patients, alzheimer patients and for other emotional, and physical conditions as well.
1. What is Reiki?
Sinsei HYakuten Inamoto (Reiki Master) describes Reiki as "energy from the universe, it is unlimited and immeasurable". It's a form of energy healing that reduces stress, promotes relaxation, and restores balance while supporting the body's natural ability to heal itself.
2. How is Reiki performed?
Reiki is administered to fully clothed clients that are laying on a treatment table or sitting in a chair.
The practitioner lightly places their hands on or near the client's body in a series of positions. Each position is held for 3 to 5 minutes; sessions can last from 45 to 90 mins. depending on the client's needs.
3. What sensations will I experience during a Reiki session?
Some people experience warm, tingling pulsations where the practitioner places her hands on their body, others feel these sensations move through their body to other locations. This is the energy flowing into them. Not everyone experiences physical sensations; however, most say they feel very relaxed and peaceful, many actually fall asleep while receiving Reiki. The reactions vary from person to person as Reiki speaks to the individual needs of the recipient.
4. How often should I get a Reiki treatment?
As often as you like, there are no limits as to the amount of sessions you can have. A person's lifestyle, desire and budget will all factor into how often they receive reiki treatments.
5. Can pregnant women, babies, animals and plants receive Reiki?
Yes, yes, yes and yes! Pregnant women and babies are perfectly safe receiving Reiki; pets and plants respond favorably as well.
6. Is Reiki a religion?
Reiki Energy Healing is Spiritual in nature and it can enhance spiritual or religious practices; however it is not a religion.
7. Does insurance cover Reiki?
Some insurance companies do, most don't. Reiki is starting to gain more recognition as an effective therapeutic healing treatment. The best thing to do is contact your provider and ask them.
8. What is lineage?
Lineage refers to the succession of teachers leading back to the founder of the system a person practices. My lineage is Mikao Usui, the system I practice is Komyo Reiki Kai, created by Buddhist Monk, Sensei HYakuten Inamoto.
9. How do I know if I've selected the right practitioner for myself?
That's personal, my advice would be to pay attention to how you feel. It doesn't matter what a practitioner's experience is or how popular they are,
they ONLY thing that matters is how you feel when you are with them, and how you feel over a period of time in their care.
10. Will Reiki work if I don't believe in it?
Yes it will; however the effects are quicker and more profound if you set an intention to feel good, and if you put yourself in allowance mode to receive the Reiki energy.
I tell clients all the time "It's kind of like sitting in the audience at a Comedy Club with your arms crossed daring the comedian to make you laugh".
If you're not open to having a good time, then you're setting an intention to block your good time. Eventually the comedian is going to say something
to make you laugh no matter how determined you are not to!
11. What is the average cost of a Reiki session?
That varies depending on the practitioner. I've heard session fees as low as $75 and as high as $350.
Some practitioners have other specialities that they incorporate into their reiki session, (for example I am a Certified Health and Wellness Practitioner)
while others factor in their level of training and their years of practice and dedication to this healing Art. Some place the highest monetary value on their Reiki treatment because of it's profound mental, physical and spiritual healing abilities.
My advice is when you find a practitioner that "feels" right, that's who you should partner with. We find money for everything we want or think we
need in our lives; why should Reiki be different?
Reiki & Addiction
I once read that we're all addicted to something, what a provocative statement. I define addiction as any substance, action, belief or relationship that leads us away from ourselves, that disconnects us from our internal GPS, and stops us from feeling, and experiencing our life authentically.
Addiction interrupts the body, and spirits natural ability to heal and renew itself. Reiki I discovered can be very instrumental to the addict in the healing process, because it balances the body's energy. It is believed that the reason we experience illness, conflicts, depression and other emotional and physical symptoms is because our natural energy flow is blocked, and for many of us it creates a fertile ground for addictive behaviors.
Reiki is an energy balancing healing modality that's a safe, non-invasive complement to any treatment for addiction. It's unique in that it works on an individual basis, as it addresses the specific needs of the recipient.
Although all addictions take us away from the source of our problems, there are different types of addictions (Chemical vs Psychological for example) which means our conventional approach to healing should vary as well. Reiki; however, is universal in its approach... Returning the body, and spirit to it's natural state, while creating an environment that promotes healing, and self love.
If you're ready to show up for yourself Reiki could be your Vehicle.
What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key), is described as the Universal Life Force energy that balances the body's energy and enhances it's natural abiltiy to heal itself. It is a hands on or off therapeutic techinique that is spiritually inspired. Dr. Mikao Usui, (a Japanese Buddhist Monk) became aware of Reiki Energy on the 21st day of a meditation and fasting experience on Mount Karuna in Japan in the early 1900s. He was so moved by the profound healing ability of Reiki that he went on to share and teach this healing art to many.
Contrary to most accounts, Dr. Usui claims to have tapped into not created, an Energy which already existed. He is the originator of the Reiki Ryoho Healing System. His teachings (followed by many throughout the world) are the foundation of the Komyo Reiki Kai system developed by Usui Sensei, Hyakuten Inamoto. I am a practitioner from this lineage.
Many schools of Reiki have since developed. As with all art forms Reiki has various expressions, styles and systems, none of which are superior or inferior to the other; the premise is the same.
Reiki is Unconditional Giving and Receiving of Love.
